Greenbrier 4-H Family & Awards Night, 2024

Greenbrier 4-H club members and families gathered for the annual Family and Awards Night in Clover Hall on Sunday, Nov. 3. This event celebrated the accomplishments of the club and its members over the last year.

Becca Anderson welcomed people and called the meeting to order. Aden Bardole led the introduction of families, and Jaelynn Hedges led a fun human scavenger hunt activity.

Aden Bardole acknowledged these members for having exhibits at the Iowa State Fair: Becca Anderson, Grace Hardaway, Madison Christensen, Jaelynn Hedges, Rylan Hostetler, Elijah and Ava Glendenning, Elise Badger, Aden Bardole, Adya Messer, Mackenzie Wahl, JC Pepples, Breanna and Tyler Pope, Cody Taggart, Adi Schroeder, and Elaina and Cody Stephenson. We also had these members selected for outstanding 4th grade exhibits at the Greene County Fair: Emma Stephenson, Lyndsie Goughnour, and Maxton Wahl.

Bailey and Aden led the initiation of Amber Stephenson as a new member. After reciting the 4-H pledge she received her membership card and was welcomed into the Greenbrier club.

The installation of officers was led by leader Linda Hedges. The committee of officers includes Becca Anderson, Aden Bardole, Autumn Barrett, Breanna Pope, Adya Messer, and Ava Glendenning.

Record keeping awards were handed out. Elaina Stephenson and Jentry Hedges received junior overall record keeping. Intermediate overall record keeping went to Madison Christensen and Jaelynn Hedges. Intermediate honorable mention went to Makenzie Wahl.

Senior overall record keeping award went to Becca Anderson. Honorable mention went to Autumn Barrett.

Junior project awards were given to Lillian Barrett for sewing, photography, and fashion; Elaina Stephenson for sheep and poultry; and Norah Hoyt for sheep, photography, sewing, and visual arts.

Intermediate project awards were given to Rylan Hostetler for communications; Madison Christensen for beef; Makenzie Wahl for citizenship, photography, and sheep; and Jaelynn Hedges for table setting, clothing, and poultry.

Becca Anderson received senior project awards for visual arts, communication, foods, photography, and home improvement.

This year two members of the Greenbrier club were selected for special awards to youth showing excitement at 4-H events, having a positive attitude about 4-H and showing leadership skills. Special recognition was given to Olivia Burkett for the Junior Spark Award. Jaelynn Hedges received the Intermediate Flame Award.

Those went to: one year, Luke Larson, Maxton Wahl, Callen Taggart, Kashlynn Newby, Jentry Hedges, Dakota Monthei, Emma Stephenson, Lyndsie Goughnour, Blake Gierstorf, and Adi Schroeder; two years, Quinten Messer, Elaina Stephenson, Lily Sheridan, Parker Gierstorf, Norah Hoyt, Olivia Burkett, JC Pepples, and Elijah, Ava, and Ellen Glendenning; three years, Lillian Barrett, Rylan Hostetler, Tyler Pope, Makenzie Wahl, and Abigail Wood; four years, Madison Christensen, Landyn Goughnour, Eli Hardaway, Jaelynn Hedges, and Cody Taggart; five years Adya Messer and Breanna Pope; six years,  Autumn Barrett and Dakota Ostrander; seven years,  Becca Anderson, Aden Bardole and Kaleah Messer; eight years, Elise Badger; and nine years, Grace Hardaway, Cody Stephenson, and Shailynne Woodley.

Linda Hedges thanked the members and parents for their support and help during the year. The night concluded with a reminder to do the 2024-25 4-H re-enrollment by Nov. 15 to avoid a $25 late fee. Greenbrier’s 4-H year will be completed with bowling at Spare Time Lanes on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 1 pm.
